Opportunity Descriptions


After School Classroom Enrichment (ACE) Program:  Help coordinate volunteers for these weekly enrichment classes offered in the fall and spring.

Art Masters:  Volunteers needed to prepare art materials for each classroom.  In addition, help is need for each classroom.  Training and materials provided.  No art experience required.  A parent run art lesson and a fun way to spend time in your child’s classroom.  SIGN UP IN YOUR CLASSROOM AT BACK TO SCHOOL NIGHT.

Assemblies:  Coordinate planning of school assemblies.

B.C. Buddies:  Be involved with welcoming new families to BC.

Bee Green:  Volunteer to help Bonita Canyon ‘Bee Green’ by implementing environmentally friendly programs on campus and contribute to our conservation efforts at school.

B.C. Partners: Supports and administers programs established with business partners in the Bonita Canyon Elementary community to bring additional fundraising revenue to the school.

Book Fair:  Work two hour shifts at the Fall and/or Spring Book Fairs.

Community Outreach:  Various community service projects, i.e. adopt a family for holidays, food drives, etc.

Computer Lab Volunteer Assist students in the computer lab as directed.  SIGN UP AT BACK TO SCHOOL NIGHT.

Emergency Preparedness:  Coordinate acquisition of supplies and equipment.  Offer assistance to office staff.

Fall Social:  Help plan and coordinate evening get together for the entire school in the fall.

Field Day:  Assist in Field Day activities in June.

Guy Stuff:  5th grade dads needed to assist with the 5th grade boys’ health education program, held one evening in the fall.

Hospitality: Help coordinate refreshments at PTA evening meetings and miscellaneous PTA functions.  A good way to meet BC parents!

IPSF Ambassador:  Be the school’s liaison with the Irvine Public School Foundations to help communicate upcoming programs, promote the Community for Causes app.

Legislative Action:  Assist Bonita Canyon PTA Legislative Action Representative with legislative advocacy projects designed to benefit Irvine Unified School District on the local, state and federal levels.

Library VolunteersSIGN UP in your classroom AT BACK TO SCHOOL NIGHT.

Mother/Daughter Health Education Night:  5th grade moms needed to host 5th grade health education tea, held one evening in the spring.

Movie Night:  Plan the annual end of the year outdoor movie night.  Popcorn and snow-cones are sold.

Multicultural Club:  Join a monthly international potluck lunch with BC parents, help with the annual international luncheon for teachers/staff, give a cultural presentation for students.

Office Volunteer  If you are interested in volunteering in the school office an hour or two a week, please call the school office at 936-5450.

Picture Day:  Assist photographers with orders, combing hair, escorting classes, etc.

Pizza Parent:  Assist with serving pizza to students two times a month. Pizza days vary depending on each month’s lunch menu. Serving time is from 11:25am to 12:55pm.

Red Ribbon Week:  Assist in preparing activities for this drug awareness campaign one week in October.  Activities include Pennies for Prevention and an assembly with the D.A.R.E. officer from the Irvine Police Dept.

Reflections:  Volunteers needed in the fall to help exhibit the art and turn in entries to the Irvine PTA Reflections Committee.


Sixth Grade Promotion Party:  Parents needed to assist 6th grade Wednesday afternoon popsicle sales on a rotating basis.  Proceeds go toward 6th grade outing to Knott’s Soak City in June.

Spirit Wear:  Help take orders for Bonita Canyon logo items before and after school for school spirit occasions.

Spring Fundraiser:  The Spring Fundraiser is one of our two biggest fundraisers for the school year.  Funds raised help support many important programs at Bonita Canyon.  Sign up to help out for this great cause.

Teacher & Staff Appreciation Luncheon: Organize volunteers to coordinate the luncheon for Teacher Appreciation Week in May.

Team Kids:  Set up partnership between BC and Team Kids organization. Then, work with Upper Graders to organize 4-Week Challenge Program at BC. Challenge Program focuses on things such as Hunger; Poverty; Literacy & Environment.

Harvest Classic Soccer Tournament (5th and 6th Grade) – Conduct tryouts, finalize a roster, arrange practices, and coach a team of BC students to compete in the fall tournament sponsored by the city.  The tournament is a 1-day single elimination tournament with teams from all of the Irvine schools.

Hoops Classic Basketball Tournament (5th and 6th Grade) – Conduct tryouts, finalize a roster, arrange practices, and coach a team of BC students to compete in the 1 day tournament in November.  The tournament includes teams from all of the Irvine schools.

Web Management:  Help keep Bonita Canyons Web site current and relevant.
